Since 1960: The Beating Heart of Agadir
On February 29, 1960, an earthquake devastated Agadir. In the rebuilding that followed, the modern Souk El Had took root in the Industrial Quarter — the former slaughterhouse site — before growing into the major trading hub we know today.
From the outset, this souk was conceived as the economic lung of the reborn city: a place where artisans, merchants, and families could meet, trade, and give rhythm to daily life in Agadir after the disaster.
